108th County Amateur Championship - Day 2

For the second year running it was Long Ashton's Nathan Moore who had the difficult task of sleeping on a lead after a very competitive Day 1 at Broadway GC (click here to view the news report for Day 1). The conditions were very similar to Day 1 which could be described as perfect golfing weather. There was lots to play for as the day unfolded.

After the mornings play Nick Day (Henbury) fired a 68 to add to his Day 1 total leaving him on a three round total of 207 (-9). Nick would subsequently be the man to catch going into the last round as Matt Bell (Lilley Brook) managed a 71 which left him on a three round total of 210 and 3 behind Nick. The overnight leader Nathan Moore added 75 to his total to leave him on 211 and in third place. A few others players were within touching distance.

Nick produced another solid and steady round of 71 which included an eagle at the 15th which gave him a 72 hole total of 278 (-10). This would see him crowned the 108th Gloucestershire Golf Union County Champion, a huge honour. We wish him the best of luck at the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa later in the year.

In second place was Nathan Moore who's total of 280 left him 2 behind Nick. In third and also on 280 was Matt Bell. In fourth, fifth and sixth respectively were Ash Millington (Players Club), Jake Phillips (Cotswold Hills) and Lewis Stalley (Brickhampton Court). Ash Millington was the highest place junior which saw him take home the Peter Scott trophy.

We are extremely grateful to everyone at Broadway GC for allowing us the use of the immaculate golf course over the weekend and for their warm hospitality. We wish the club every success with the remainder of the golfing season. We are also grateful to all of the volunteers who gave up their time to ensure that the event was a success. We never take this for granted.
