U16's narrowly defeated by Wiltshire

Considering how much rain fell over the past few weeks, the course was in very good condition. There was little roll out on the fairways in the morning and greens were bobbly however that changed in the afternoon when the sun came out and the course had time to dry out a little.

We began the morning with Foursomes, five team matches and moved to Matchplay in the afternoon, ten singles. James Sayce and Ben Warwicker both made their first County appearance, Ben’s team brought a point home early doors and James closed the afternoon with a point which was great to see.

The team matches in the morning were very close and our afternoon singles started very strong but didn’t go our way towards the end. We had a few matches alive until the 18th, one gave us a point and the other halved. The final result 8.5/6.5 went in Wiltshire’s favour. It was very close towards the end.

The team showed great attitude and level of application throughout. It was great to see parents out watching the golf, some of which stayed for the duration of the day. We also got support from our current President Ian Hughes and Steve Sheppard.

Thank you to Paul McLean and his team at The Bristol GC who gave us a warm welcome and provided pleasant hospitality and good luck to Wiltshire for the rest of the season.

We look forward to our next match against Somerset on June 23rd at The Mendip GC,
