Seniors Team brave the weather!!

Gloucestershire Seniors entertained Gloucestershire Senior Ladies at Lilley Brook Golf Club on Wednesday 3rd April.  With competitions and matches being cancelled everywhere recently the greens staff at the host club made sure the course was playable and even managed to arrange an afternoon of no rain.

This annual fixture is very much the curtain raiser to the men’s Channel League season and as such is an important date in the busy schedule.  It gives both captains the chance to reacquaint established partnerships and to try new ones.

With Tim Rogers unavailable for this match it was necessary to find a partner for Nick Barwood.  Steve Yorke was the man and in their first outing together they delivered the first point by beating Mary Mayes and Liz Sandilands.  The 3/2 margin was not indicative of how close this match was until the final stages.  In the second match, Karen Rix and Ruth Hughes were unable to silence Brian Mitten and Mike Jarvis and eventually went down 2/1.  With the first two points secured by the men it was down to Susan Ellis and Fay Austen to overcome the heavyweight duo of Tim Clink and Nigel Gravelle.  They duely did so and their 3/2 winning margin could easily have been more.  The pairing of Rich Wood and Andy Wright is a regular event and it was no surprise to see them narrowly defeat Alison Kelly and Wendy Bond.  Finally, in the last match Steve Prosser was in great form with partner Nick Morris who beat Frances Lindley and Mai Bamford despite some impressive ball striking by the Ladies.   MATCH RESULTS HERE

Many thanks to Lilley Brook Golf Club for hosting this fixture and for preparing the course in such difficult conditions.

Gloucestershire now look forward to their first league match away to Glamorgan at Radyr Golf Club on Monday 15th April.
