I18's defeat Gwent in Channel League Match

Well what a great day it was for golf on Friday! The boys arrived in cloud but by the time we teed off at 9.30am, it was glorious sunshine which was to remain with us for the rest of the day!

After a quick conversation with Captain Ed Fry on arrival, the morning foursomes were soon sorted and Brandon Skidmore &Will Rawlins led the team out and won their match on the 13th green. Ed Fry & Danny Townsend were next up and won their match on the 15th green, quickly followed by Ambrose Eaves & Ben John who won their match on the same hole. The 4th pairing of Sam Edlin & Ollie Crowley had a very close match with the result in the balance until the very end but the boys eventually ran out winners on the 18th. The last pairing were Riley Wood & Zak Armstrong and they put up a good fight in their match but unfortunately the opposition were just too strong in the end and they lost on the 16th green, so after the morning foursomes the GGU boys were 4 v 1 in front and in a great position to win the match with the afternoon singles still to play.

It was then in for lunch and the customary Sandwich & chips before heading out again for the afternoon singles. The scoresheet shows that it was a fairly comfortable afternoon with the boys winning the session 8.5 v 1.5 and that the overall score for the match was 12.5 v 2.5 in favour of the GGU. Well done boys on a great performance and let's hope for a similar result against Glamorgan when we play them in a couple of weeks.

Our thanks go to Keith Wood and all the staff at Gloucester Golf for making us feel so welcome and looking after us so well both with the food in the club house and with the presentation of the golf course.  Our thanks also go to Graham Harris and all the Gwent boys for playing the game in the right spirit with a special thankyou goes to Derreck Butler (County President) for providing excellent support and encouragement to the boys throughout the day.

Our next and final GGU U18 Channel League match is against Glamorgan on Sunday 24th September at Swansea Bay GC and any supporters wishing to attend will be more than welcome.
