Gloucestershire Beat Wiltshire at Forest Hills GC

For the first time in quite a while, the sun shone all day at a glorious Forest Hills where our Under 18s took on Wiltshire in the Channel League. The course really was in first class condition, both visually and from a playability perspective, and our boys took great advantage of it, producing some stunning golf in the morning to win all five of the foursomes matches.

Three of the matches resulted in fairly comfortable wins on 15 and 16, but the other two went all the way, and it was great to see our boys produce some excellent golf when they needed it most to close out their respective games.

The afternoon singles turned out to be a far less comfortable affair. One way or the other, most of the games were decided fairly early on, and whilst the overall result was never really in doubt, a young Wiltshire side did themselves great credit by battling all the way, ultimately winning the series by 6 games to 4.

The overall match result, a win by 9 games to 6, leaves us in a positive position in the Channel League table, and with two matches still to play against Gwent and Glamorgan we’re in an excellent position to make a real challenge for the title.

Thanks as always go to the parents of our boys for getting them there in very good time, and for their support throughout the day. I’d also like to thank Dereck Buttler, our President, for his company and good humour, and the staff at Forest Hills in both the clubhouse and pro shop who looked after us brilliantly. It really is appreciated.

We now look forward to the Severnside Four Counties at Ross-on-Wye, before picking up the Channel League again in a match against Gwent at Gloucester Golf Club on Friday 1st September.
