U16's V Glamorgan at Morriston GC

The glorious British summer continued to deliver a never-ending supply of rain for our Under 16s as they took on Glamorgan in the annual friendly at Morriston Golf Club in Swansea (a warm-up for the Channel League match at Filton in September).

Quite how the course stood up to the early morning deluge is anybody's guess, but stand up it did, and our thanks must go to everyone at Morriston for making us feel so welcome, and especially to the greenkeepers for doing everything in their power to let the game go ahead. Placing as many of the pins as possible on the high spots of greens didn't go un-noticed. Thank You.

The match itself was a very competitive one, and whilst it might look otherwise from the overall scoreline (a 10.5-4.5 defeat), most of the matches were closely contested with just a couple of shots here and there making the difference.

Despite the horrific conditions, especially in the morning, the attitude and application of our boys was first class, and we can ask for nothing more than maximum effort which is exactly what we got.

As always, our thanks also go to our opposition, Glamorgan, who conducted themselves superbly all day, and to their management team for welcoming me and Dereck Buttler, our President, so warmly. Despite the weather (have I mentioned that already!), we really enjoyed the day.

Thanks also to the parents of our boys for getting them there in very good time, and for their support throughout the day. Providing an encouraging and supportive environment for the lads is so important.

Looking forward to the next match at Filton already.
