U14's Friendly V Worcestershire

With the summer well and truly here the U14’s paid a visit to Stinchcombe Hill to take on Worcestershire, an ideal preparation for the GGU Boys championships in a couple of weeks’ time.

Unfortunately a late injury and Fathers Day meant we had a 9 player team but Captain Oscar took it all in his stride with the opening drive being long straight and showing no nerves. The following match of James and Jack equally followed suit with Luis and Will taking a different but ultimately playable route whereas the back matches of Tommy and Alex and Thomas and Noah all made good account of themselves

The opening holes saw quite a bit of toing and froing between both sides with Tommy and Noah both showing some short games touches to get holes

Around the turn there was not much in it till a flurry of holed puts in the bottom match meant Thomas and Noah’s solid tee to green play wasn’t rewarded and Worcs took charge while 2 shots in the last 4 meant despite some sharp play from Oscar the top and bottom matches went Worcs way. Jack and James meanwhile battled against some luke warm putting to keep their match alive as Luis and Will went for broke to get themselves into a leading position. Tommy and Alex looked in great position until a long bridie on 17 went against them. !8 proved strong for us with Luis and Will overpowering it get a first win on the board and Tommy and Alex having a chance to make birdie and take theirs but unfortunately neither dropped. With James and Jack succumbing on 17 Worcs took the spoills on the day 3.5 to 1.5  but lads all played great parts in taking all but one match to the 17th and still had plenty to smile about

Between both teams was great spirit and lots of chat and congratulations to Luke and his Worcs side for some great golf  Huge thanks to Stinchcombe Hill GC for providing an ideal venue  and great food. Also a huge thanks to all the parents for not only getting the boys there but providing such great and much appreciated support

With some lessons learnt and shots to be proud of the boys return to Stinchcombe Hill for the 36 hole GGU boys champs before later in July taking on Somerset at the Bristol
