Gloucestershire lose County Boys Finals by .5 point

The County Boys Finals were played at Furness GC 23rd - 25th August.  Gloucestershire (South West) qualified with Yorkshire (North), Leicestershire & Rutland (Midlands) and Kent (South East)

We travelled to Furness GC with a team that has performed at the top of the English game over the summer, including 6 players who had played in the R&A Boys Championship.

They worked really well as a unit and were very impressive as a team.

The first day didn't go to plan with us narrowly losing to Leicestershire & Rutland 5-4 after winning the morning foursomes 2-1, but we then had a great second day beating Kent 3-0 in the foursomes and then hanging on for a 5-4 win. With Kent having beaten Yorkshire on Day 1 and Yorkshire then defeating Leicestershire & Rutland on Day 2, this meant that all four counties were in with a chance of winning on the last day.

On the final day we turned in a very gritty and spirited performance to beat Yorkshire 5-4 after losing the morning foursomes 2-1, which meant the title was then in the hands of Leicestershire & Rutland. They went on to beat Kent and ended up winning the event on “games won” difference - a truly heart breaking way to loose but the GGU can all be justifiably proud of our junior squad, four of which could potentially play in next years final, with the SW championship qualifier being at The Players in July.

A huge thank you to the large Green Army who made their way to Furness to support the boys.
