Gloucestershire Seniors entertained Gloucestershire Senior Ladies in their annual pre-season friendly at Lilley Brook Golf Club on Wednesday 5th April.
Though the result of the match is of little importance, the competitiveness seems to build each year. Mary Mayes and Ali Kelly were up against it in the first match and it was no surprise that Steve Yorke and Phil Sutton came out on top. Nick Barwood and Rich Wood found themselves in a close encounter but pulled away strongly in the final holes to beat Corinne Durber and Liz Sandilands. In the third match Tim Clink and Andy Wright certainly didn’t have things their own way and would have been relieved to post a half point against Karen Rix and Vicky Watkins. Local player Brian Mitten and his partner Mike Jarvis came across Wendy Bond and Fay Austin in fine form but triumphed three and two. In the final match, Vernon Chappell and Nick Morris beat the Wales International pairing of Jane Rees and Wendy Carruthers but it must be said that they each received two shots from Jane Rees.
This is a cherished fixture in the Gloucestershire Seniors calendar and both teams expressed their desire to maintain the date in future years.
A huge thank you to Lilley Brook Golf Club for hosting the match and preparing the course so well despite the recent poor weather.
