Hi, I’m James Maiden, Sport Psychologist for Gloucestershire Golf Union, a role I’ve proudly held for the past three years. In addition to my work with the Union, I also work full-time at the University of Winchester as a Sport & Exercise Laboratory Technician and Lecturer. Please see a little bit about me both professionally and personally below.

I’m a Registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist (HCPC) and Chartered Psychologist (BPS), with experience supporting athletes in both golf and football mainly. Alongside my role with Gloucestershire, I currently work with Portsmouth FC Academy and have previously coached with Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, and Southampton FC (both men’s and women’s teams).

I grew up in Winchester, and my long-term career goal is to become a full-time academic (Dr Maiden) while continuing to consult as a sport psychologist in professional sport. One day, I’d love to caddie for a golfer on tour, because a caddie is part coach, part strategist, and very much a psychologist on the course!

Away from work, I’m a keen (if average) golfer playing off 17, and unfortunately a big Southampton FC supporter. My favourite holiday destination is Kefalonia, Greece and if I won the lottery, I’d buy a chateau in southern France, play golf 24/7, and even make my own wine.
