Conditions of Play, Qualification, Entry and Prizes

1. Conditions of Play
a. The Championship shall be stroke play played over 72 holes over two days
b. There will be a maximum of 60 competitors
c. After 36 holes the leading 30 players and all those tying for 30th place shall play a further 36 holes on the second day
d. Order of play for first 36 holes will be decided by ballot
2. Qualification
a. To be eligible to enter a player must:
i. Be in possession of a WHS Handicap Index not exceeding 5.4
ii. Have been born in the county or be a current member of a GGU affiliated club
iii. A competitor must not have taken part in a golf championship of another County affiliated to England Golf or have represented another County, including friendly matches during the current calendar year.
3. Entries and Ballot
a. Entries to the Championship should be sent to the County Secretary to reach him by 2nd May 2024, together with an entry fee of £44.00
b. It should be clearly understood that the winner of the Championship will be expected to represent the County at the English Men's County Champions Tournament held in September 2024
c. Order of Play and Starting Times will be sent to competitors via email if provided
d. Where entries exceed 60 there will be a ballot amongst the highest handicaps to reduce the entries to that number
4. Prizes and Vouchers
a. The winner shall be the competitor who returns the lowest gross score over 72 holes.
i. The winner shall be awarded the County Union Challenge Cup that will be retained by the GGU
ii. In the event of a tie for the Championship the winner shall be decided by a sudden death play-off
b. The highest placed junior golfer (u18 on 1st January) will be awarded the Peter Scott trophy that will be retained by the GGU
c. The highest placed colts golfer (u21 on 1st January) after 36 holes will be awarded the Colts Champion trophy that will be retained by the GGU
d. First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth & Sixth prizes will be awarded
5. Champion Club Tournament for the Winterbotham Cup
a. The competition is for teams of three players from any one club and will be held concurrently with the County Championship
i. Names of members comprising the Club Teams must reach the Secretary by 18th May 2024 (before play) and must be accompanied with the entry fee of £39.00 per team
ii. Team members must be playing in the Championship
b. It should be clearly understood that the winner of the Team Championship will be expected to represent the represent Gloucestershire at the EG Champion Club Tournament in September 2024
c. The winning club shall be awarded the Winterbotham Cup that will be retained by the GGU
d. The winning club will be the club with the lowest gross score in rounds 1 & 2 taking the best two scores out of three for each round
6. Practice rounds
a. Practice round arrangements will be communicated to competitors together with tee time allocations Online Competition Payment Cancellation PolicyYou can withdraw your competition entry by calling the County Secretary on 0793 6416775 or by email to secretary@gloucestershiregolfunion.co.uk and quoting your unique reference number. If you withdraw after the competition start sheet has been published on the website your entry fee will not be refunded unless in exceptional circumstances. If a championship or competition is cancelled for whatever reason a full refund of the relevant entry will apply. The Championship Committee’s decision will be and deemed to final in the event of a dispute. Entry for this competition is balloted to 60 entries. Online entry does not guarantee a place in the final competition.
This competition requires that fees be paid to complete entry. If the payment process is not completed, your entry may be removed.
