Boys Championship
It was a lovely June morning at Lilley Brook GC as the 2025 Boys Championship commenced. A full field of exactly 60 juniors from a wide variety of clubs took part from across Gloucestershire and the golf course looked to be a perfect test for the day ahead.
After the mornings play, Ambrose Eaves (Broadway) lead the way with 68 (-1). There was a log jam of three players 4 shots behind Ambrose on 72. They were Oscar Linton (Bristol & Clifton), Ernie Elford (Bristol & Clifton), Charlie Ford (Filton). The chasing pack would do all they could to catch Ambrose in the afternoon.
There was a three way tie for the net championship at half way with Sonny Hancock (Bristol & Clifton), Jack Harnaman (Bristol & Clifton) & Jack Douglas (Brickhampton Court) tied on 65. Both the net and gross events were finely poised heading into the afternoon.
Ambrose added a 72 to his mornings round of 68 to give him a total of 140 (+2) which was good enough to see him crowned 2025 Boys Champion. Ambrose will go on to represent Gloucestershire in the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa GC in September. All at the GGU wish Ambrose the very best of luck in the event. Ambrose also secured the U17 Championship as a result of his scores.
In second place and climbing the leaderboard in the afternoon after a fine 68 was Jaxson Perry, who's 36 hole total was 144. In third and fourth respectively were Charlie Ford (Filton) and Ernie Elford (Bristol & Clifton).
The Net competition was won by Harry Wheeler (Lilley Brook) who carded two fine net scores of 66 & 61 to give him a total of 127 which was good enough to secure victory by a single stroke over Jack Harnaman (Bristol & Clifton) who's 36 hole total was 128. In third also on 128 but losing out on countback was Sonny Hancock (Bristol & Clifton).
Our thanks go to all at Lilley Brook GC for hosting the event and for allowing the boys the use of the golf course of which was presented brilliantly. We couldn't have asked for the Championship to go any better.
