Gloucestershire Golf Union

Handicap Championship

On Thursday 3rd July we, in conjunction with Minchinhampton GC, hosted the first ever playing of the Gloucestershire Golf Union Handicap Championship. We were so pleased that over 75 of our affiliated members entered the event and with tee times from 8.00 until 13.00 a great days golfing was ahead.

From the early groups Phil Smith (Cirencester) posted the number to beat, after he carded a solid 69. This would only stay in the lead for a small amount of time as some really good scores started to roll in. The best of the day and earning the crown of GGU Handicap Champion was Simon Ruffley (Gloucester) who's 65 would not be beaten. In second place just one shot back on 66 was Neil Bryant (The Kendleshire). Also on 66 and in third but missing out on second on countback was Charles Hill (Rodway Hill). In fourth was Bristol & Clifton's Derek Kilgallon and in fifth with a fine 67 in it's own right was Ben Homer (TP Golf).

Our thanks go to all at Minchinhampton GC for their support in hosting the event, preparing a course fit for a championship of this nature and for their warm hospitality throughout the day. We do truly value the clubs continued support. We hope to see even more entrants in the event next year where it will be played at The Kendleshire GC on Thursday 2nd July 2026.
