SHOT OF THE DAY:

Hole 10 - Ash Millington - Hit a 3-wood to 35 feet and sunk the putt!!

QUOTE OFTHE DAY:

Hole 9 - Milan Reed and Louis Ross 'Can we get to the bunker, right?' Ash Millington 'Not a chance!' .... but he did, himself, and passed them by 100 yards!!!

SCORING OF THE DAY:

Mike Day - 6 birdies and an eagle!

 

DAY ONE - SUNDAY 8TH JUNE - GLOUCESTERSHIRE VS DEVON - WIN!

SHOTS OF THE DAY:

HOLE 2 & 14 - Mike Day - on both holes, hit an 8 iron 170 yards into wind to a gimme!

HOLE 8 - Calum Mortimore - short left on the bank in a divot from hell, chipped to a gimmee to win the hole!

HOLE 17 - Brandon Skidmore - sunk a putt 60ft from the front of the green

HOLE 17 - Milan Reed - 90 yards out and lipped out!

HOLE 1 - Louis Ross to one of the players in the opposing pairing, '... and don't try to keep up with me today, either!'

BLOOMER OF THE DAY:

In the Clubhouse restaurant, first thing in the morning, Former President, on arrival at the table, shook hands with a number of 'grey-top' players, only to then realise they were not Gloucestershire players!

 

DAY TWO - MONDAY 9TH JUNE - GLOUCESTERSHIRE VS WILTSHIRE - WIN!

SHOTS OF THE DAY

Hole 8 - Charlie McLean - Under the umbrella of a wide tree – 180 yards out. With a 5 iron scuttle, 4 ft off the ground, he hit to 8ft and Matt Bell holed it for birdie

Hole 8 - Brandon Skidmore - From the deep rough – dead ball, tree in the back swing, chipped out to 12ft and Jake Phillips rolled in the putt

Hole 15 - Milan Reed - Hit a 5 iron ‘the best 5 iron shot Louis Ross had ever seen’ to 6ft for an eagle

Louis Ross - Speaking of one of his shots – ‘the ball just deflated in the air!!!’

Brandon Skidmore - Walked all the way round the outside of the house to see of the drive was clear, then on returning, suddenly said, “Oh, there’s a window just there!!!”

Hole 15 - Jake Phillips - Hit the ball ‘out of Wiltshire!’, right, onto a cut buggy path, but managed to escape with a par!

Hole 17 - Charlie McLean - Tee shot hit  left into the trees, hit the tree and bounced back, over the cart path, into the first cut of the fairway, then Matt Bell knocked onto the green and Charlie holed the putt for the match!

DAY THREE - TUESDAY 10TH JUNE - SWGA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS/YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS/SW TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS - WIN!

GLOUCESTERSHIRE are the 2025 South West County Team Champions. Our team total of -37 at Cumberwell Park GC was good enough to secure victory over Somerset by 24 strokes. The full Team and Individual scores can be seen via the links below:

Milan Reed (Long Ashton) WON South West Amateur on -13 which included a chip in eagle on his last hole to pip teammate Brandon Skidmore (Coswold Hills) by a single stroke. To add to the individual title, Milan was also crowned the South West Youths Champion. Well done Milan! The standard of golf across the whole squad was outstanding and a huge congrats to all.

As a result of winning the Team event, Gary Ward and his team will travel to the England Golf County Finals which take place at St Enedoc GC from 26th – 28th September.

Hole 9 (his 18th hole) - Milan Reed - Chipped in from the middle of the approach and sunk the putt for his finish at 8 under par for round 2 and 13 under par for the day

Hole 9 (his 9th hole) - Matt Bell - 310yds out – hit to 10 ft and boxed it for an eagle

Hole 2 (his 2nd hole) - Mike Day - 55yds through the back of the green, in a bad lie. Floated on to 8ft and canned the putt

Calum Mortimore & Nick Day (on separate occasions) - Both hit 2 other players with their ball, then, after apologising, and checking the players were ok, asked, “Do you want a signed glove?”

DAY FOUR - WEDNESDAY 11TH JUNE - GLOUCESTERSHIRE VS SOMERSET - WIN!

SHOTS OF THE DAY

Hole 2 - Calum Mortimore- 67 yds in for 3rd shot. Hit a high tariff shot, which checked up, span to the right and stopped 2 inches from the hole!

Hole 12 - Mike Day - 250 yds in from the right hand rough – trees all in the way. Played a 60 yd cut around the trees and it rolled out to 30 ft

 

DAY FOUR - THURSDAY 12TH JUNE - GLOUCESTERSHIRE VS CORNWALL - WIN!

SHOTS OF THE DAY

Hole 9 - Brandon Skidmore - 3rd shot- 102 yds out and hit it to 2 inches

Hole 14 - Matt Bell - On the back of the hole, downhill lie, by the bundi. Hit his shot 40 yds over the bank of the green and the bunker and canned it

Hole 12 - James Bath - Pin high right, middle of the bunker, nipped out to 3ft

Hole 16 - Calum Mortimore - Tee shot span back to 6ft

Hole 12 - TBC  - In right hand rough, 40 yds - no green to play with. Shot landed on the downslope and ran out to a gimme

Hole 18 - Mike Day - 2nd shot 111 yds in and hit it to 12 inches - such an important shot to give us the point we needed to take the morning singles today!

On the same hole, in the afternoon foursomes, Mike’s final putt secured his and James Bath’s win, to also secure our match victory!

Louis Ross - At the end of a shattering day, in response to tomorrow’s tee times, ‘oh, will we be on different halves of the course?’ (Then he realised what he had just said, with his team mates creased up, laughing!)???
