The 2024 Midland 4 Counties was played over 30th & 31st October at Trentham GC. The event was postponed from April and due to daylight hours, the format was changed from Singles to Foursomes. The boys were prepped well and they were keen to finish the 2024 season on a high.
On 30th October we were up against the hosts, Staffordshire. The boys played really well and we won 3-1 (See Game 1 results below). The other match on the day was Warwickshire against Worcestershire which was a 2-2 draw.
Our second match early on 31st October was against Warwickshire and the boys again played some really good golf to win the match 3-1 (See Game 2 results below). In the other match Staffordshire beat Worcestershire 3-1.
The final match and with the trophy on the line was against Worcestershire. All that was needed to win the trophy was a half but that’s a lot easier to say than do. I’m very pleased to say that the afternoon result against Worcestershire was 2-2 which confirmed that the Midland 4 Counties trophy was heading to Gloucestershire. (See Game 3 results below TBC).
This result seals what has been a very successful year for the squad as they also won the SWCGA Boys Qualifier, Severnside and the Junior Channel League. It has been a pleasure to be part of the squad and Counties success this year and well done to all.
Our thanks go to Staffordshire and Trentham GC for hosting and it’s Gloucestershire’s turn to host next year and we will do so at Forest Hills GC on 15th & 16th April 2025.
Finally, a big vote of thanks to all the boys who have supported the U18s this season that are now leaving the squad and moving up to the Mens golf scene. These are Ash Millington (Captain); Leo Powell; Joel Warne; Finn Ellis; Brandon Skidmore; Ethan Holway and Oli Crowley and we wish them all the very best in the years ahead.
