Boys Championship

It was a cold June morning at Knowle GC as the 2024 Boys Championship commenced. Over 50 juniors from a wide variety of clubs took part from across Gloucestershire and the golf course looked to be a perfect test for the day ahead.

After the mornings play, Leo Powell (Ross-on-Wye) lead the way with 69 (-1). There was a log jam of four players 6 shots behind Leo on 75. They were Joel Warne (The Players), Ben Warwicker (Lilley Brook), Oscar Linton (Bristol & Clifton) and Finn Ellis (Bristol & Clifton). The chasing pack would do all they could to catch Leo in the afternoon.

Jean-Christian Lucas (Thornbury) lead the net with a fine 63 and 2 behind on 65 was Felix Manners (Minchinhampton). Both the net and gross events were finely poised heading into the afternoon.

Leo added a 71 to his mornings round of 69 to give him a total of 140 (Level) which was good enough to see him crowned 2024 Boys Champion. Leo will go on to represent Gloucestershire in the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa GC in September. All at the GGU wish Leo the very best of luck in the event. In second place and climbing the leaderboard in the afternoon after a fine 69 was Jaxson Perry, who's 36 hole total was 146 (+6). Jaxson Perry secured the U17 Championship to go with the U14, U15 & U16 titles that he won earlier in the year. In third and fourth respectively and both on 138 were Joel Warne and Finn Ellis.

The Net competition was won by Sammy Williams (Thornbury) who carded two fine net scores of 67 & 63 to give him a total of 130 which was good enough to secure victory by 4 strokes over home player William Rellie who's 36 hole total was 134. In third on 137 was Felix Manners.

Our thanks go to all at Knowle GC for hosting the event and for allowing the boys the use of the golf course of which was presented brilliantly. We couldn't have asked for the Championship to go any better.
