Seniors Final Channel League Match
Gloucestershire Seniors travelled to Mullion for their final match of the 2023 Channel League season. The venue for this could barely be any further south so there was a determination to put in a good performance against the National Counties finalists. The conditions on the day were fairly benign but Gloucestershire were up against a team far more used to links golf than they are.
The morning greensomes were halved which was satisfactory to both teams bearing in mind the good quality play. The most notable performance in this session was from Carl Gyde and Simon Hale who secured a 3/2 win to ensure parity and the lunch break.
With all to play for in the afternoon, Nick Barwood got Gloucestershire off to a fine start with an impressive win against Cornwall’s Ian Veale. There was ebb and flow all through the matches with the majority of them going to the last and wins from Vernon Chappell and Simon Hale ensured the half.
Gloucestershire finish the season in 4th position but all thoughts now will be towards the Southern Counties finals against Sussex, Cambridgeshire and Kent at Ely City on 19th September.
