The 2nd team entertained Gwent 2nd team at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club on Sunday 12th October 2025 in their final Wessex League match of the season.
The morning foursomes was a very close affair with all pairings being up and down during the round at some stage.
Matt Bell and Tom Flynn led off proceedings and were taken all the way to the 18th and held on for a very narrow 1 hole victory. All other matches were concluded just 1 hole earlier on the 17th and all went the way of the home team, Lee Hanson and Neil Tocknell were second out and there was nothing in their match before winning the 15th and 17th holes for a 2&1 victory. Dave Allison and Alex Ward were 2 down at the turn and looking like going 3 down but a moment of magic by Dave who chipped in on 10 changed the momentum of the game and they had a very strong back 9 and also won by a 2&1 score-line. The final game of the morning featured Edison Butler and Josh Edmunds who were kept together after their fine away win last time out, they again performed well and were also victorious on the 17th with another 2&1 winning margin.
This gave the hosts a fantastic 4-0 lead at the lunchtime break.
The singles was led out by Matt Bell who built up a commanding lead early on and saw out the the match 5&4, Tom Flynn however was up against a very strong opponent and was defeated 3&2 giving Gwent their first point of the match. The next match saw Alex Ward on his own track in control from early on and he secured a 3&1 victory, Dave Allison was out next and was taken all the way to the 18th which he birdied and held on for a 1 up victory which meant the match was now out of reach for Gwent. Lee Hanson was 3 down at the turn in his match and battled back superbly to it back to all square with 3 to play before successive birdies by the Gwent captain saw him defeated 2&1, Neil Tocknell was well up at the turn in his match before a fightback from his opponent saw him being taken down the 18th before he saw out the match for a 2 up victory. The final two matches very a lot more comfortable for the home team with Edison Butler putting in another strong performance in winning 6&4 and the final match saw Josh Edmunds also finishing on the 14th hole with another fine 5&4 victory.
This meant the GGU won the singles 6-2 which meant the final score was Gloucestershire 2nd team 10 - 2 Gwent 2nd team
