As a busy summer season draws to a close there’s just enough time to squeeze in a competitive run out between the GGU U16s and CAP players of a similar age group
Stinchcombe Hill as always, provided a bright and breezy test for the second running of this match with a trophy donated kindly by The Gloucestershire County Golf Partnership on offer
The strong left to right wind offered a tough test for all the players with as the opening exchanges saw much toing and froing as bouncy fairways and smooth greens made for some great golf. By the turn the U16s had a good lead in the top match and CAP held a strong position in the 5th while the rest seemed well balanced
With Felix taking the opener for the U16s and Jo and Henry taking one back for the academy at roughly the same time things started to get interesting especially when Knowle team mates Will and Calum then stretched ahead to take another point for the academy on 15. Despite a strong showing from Luis for the U16s Harry and Jack edged a further point on 17 for the academy with the matches 3 and 6 going down 18. With Fergus and George a very professional fairway and green win on 18 to take a point back for the U16’s it all hung on match 3. Despite the remote mower trying to shred Ernie’s headcover he and Stan getting great birdie chances only meant getting back from dormy to all square and the spoils to the Academy 3.5 to 2.5
As always big thanks to Stinchcombe Hill GC for making us so welcome as well as even bigger thanks to Debbie Casling, Richard our President, James Tuck, Peter French and all the parents for their support for the boys on a testing but well enjoyed day
