GGU U14's play Somerset U14's at Rodway Hill GC
With the summer holidays well and truly underway the U14’s visited the North of the County to take on Somerset at a very sunny Rodway Hill GC
After a brief run through of our new GGU warm up the pairings set out for 9 holes of foursomes and a few nerves showing on both teams with the bouncy fairway making the course narrower although in match 2 Kohan and Olly took a commanding lead taking the first 3 holes. In match 1 Alfie and Tommy got themselves in front early. Debutant Fred Trehearne from the CAP squad partnered with the young but experienced Noah began to build a lead and eventually we took all the first 3 matches. Things were tighter in the last 2 games with the extra length off the tees giving an advantage but both matches kept going with James and Will only just missing out with a putt on 9
After lunch we returned for 10 singles with a 1 point lead and with opening tee shots the boys showed they meant business but gradually the Somerset boys got their scoring boots on and especially round the greens started to get things close meaning good leads in the early matches and losses for Alfie, Kohan and Olly. Despite a Somerset chip in on 16 from the ditch Tommy finished off his good play with a win for us but losses followed for Noah and Fred. With Harvey making good work of his game finishing on 14 and debutant Gus taking a good lead while Will fought on it looked like we might just get it back. However Somerset produced shots at telling times to take a point off James and holf Will off on 18 to take the match 6-9
A big thanks you to everyone at Rodway Hill for being such good hosts, Roger and Ian from Somerset for such great support on the day along with our own President and especially to all the parents for getting the boys there and supporting them so well
Its now onto the busy period of Jeff Hall Junior opens before our final Inter County friendly against Glamorgan on Aug 13th at Forest of Dean GC
