With rumours of a heatwave about to hit the UK welcomed our U14 squad to Stinchcombe Hill GC for the first inter county friendly against Worcestershire. The bright breezy day also saw the first full run through for the boys of our new pre round warm up routines from our Strength and Conditioning Consultants - Viktus
As always up on top of the Cotswolds a breeze faced the boys opening tee shots with Alfie and Tommy leading the boys out and finding the opening fairway. The trend continued with Olly and Kohan followed by Noah and Henry splitting the semi blind opener. Making their full debuts solid tee shits followed from Alex and Will before Harvey and James showed no nerves either hitting probably the best shots of the day
As the matches progressed holes into the turn there seemed to be trend with our boys creating opportunities only for the Worcs boys to close the door with a tight pitch or well holed putt sometimes from distance gaining the momentum which meant soon the opening matches of Alfie and Tommy as well as Kohan and Olly falling to Worcestershire pairings shooting great scores. In a very evenly matched game 3 Noah and Henry slowly built up their lead again and although being held by a clutch putt from the Worcs boys on 16 closed out winning 17 to get a point on the board
In the last 2 matches Harvey and James were fighting back from 5 down and taking things on and on while only a couple of missed opportunities on 15 and 16 closed the door on Alex and Wills fight back. With another hole grabbed back Harvey and James made it to 17 but couldn’t quite get the chance to keep the match alive so going down and Worcs taking the match 4-1
A big thanks you to everyone at Stinchcombe Hill for being such good and friendly hosts as always, to Luke, Kevin and all the Worcestershire team for such a friendly and competitive atmosphere, to all the parents for getting the boys there and supporting them so well, to my fellow U14 coach Jamie and big thanks to former President Ian Hughes for his support on the day
With the weather seemingly looking like holding for the summer its onwards for many to the GGU Boys Championships at Lilley Brook GC on 29th June
