On the 29th May at Yeovil GC a combination of players from across our junior squads but all U16 in age, took part in the SWCGA U14/U16 Championship. Having finished second behind Wiltshire in the event in 2024, the team and support staff were all keen to go one better in 2025. Yeovil GC was in fabulous condition but proved to be playing very tight which mixed with a swirling wind made it a tough day for scoring. Having prepared for such conditions and the type of golf course in advance, the boys were up to the challenge.
Felix Chippendale shot a brilliant 72 (+1) which was the best score of the day and saw him crowned U16 SWCGA Champion. A tremendous achievement and much deserved. Felix by way of winning has earnt a spot in the McGregor Trophy should he be able to play in it in July. Well done Felix and enjoy the title of the South West U16 Champion!
It was another Gloucestershire player in Jack Lockwood was the nearest to Felix. Jack's score of 74 (+3) not only won him the U14 title but it was also the second best score of the day giving him the runners up spot in the U16 event. Well done Jack and we wish you all the very best at The Reid Trophy later in the year of which he is now exempt from any ballot for. Jack can enjoy the crown of U14 South West Champion!
Supporting the standout individual performances by Jack & Felix, the rest of the team more than played their part and as a team accumulated a score of 548 which saw Gloucestershire winners in the county team event by 10 strokes over Wiltshire. This gave Gloucestershire a clean sweep of the prizes and lots of trophies coming back to Gloucestershire. The whole team were brilliant both on and off the golf course and were a credit to themselves, their clubs and their county. Well done!
Thanks to the various supporters and parents who were there to cheer the boys on. Well done again to the full team and the list of competing players were as follows:
