Gloucestershire WIN friendly against Glamorgan

We had sunshine for most of the day which made for extremely enjoyable golf. Shirehampton Park GC is s a challenging course with many sloping fairways, cross fairway tee shots and a number of difficult par 3’s.

We began the morning with Foursomes match-play. It looked very much like things were going our way however the match results evened out and we went into the afternoon just 1 point up.

Building on the morning pairings momentum we went into the afternoon extremely confident. There was some spectacular play, we halved our first match, lost the second and then the tsunami began, Gloucestershire won the next seven matches, a spectacular achievement. Douglas McMurty from The Academy made his debut along with Ernie Elford from the U14’s. Jack Lockwood also from the U14’s joined us again and the three played amazing golf through-out the day. Douglas and Jack won their match 4&2, Ernie won his 7&6. Unfortunately, we lost the last match.

It was our day, Glamorgan played well but we had the upper hand, and our momentum held them at bay to end the day 10.5 to 4.5

Our U16 team showed great atitude and level of application throughout. Their spirits were high, and a special thank you to Douglas, Jack and Ernie who really contributed to the team spirit and results on the day.

We had a few Parents walk the course, ball spotting and cheering the team. Vice President Richard Salter introduced the teams and started play for our team and singles events. His presence and support as always is appreciated.

Thank you to Clayton who was looking after Glamorgan on the day and to The Shirehampton team led by Steve Yorke who gave us a warm welcome and provided pleasant hospitality.

Our next Channel League match is against Glamorgan at Grove GC on 8th September. The team selection will be announced on CoachNow.
