U16 Boys vs U18 Girls at Stinchcombe Hill on Sunday 24th March 2024

Sunday 24th March saw our annual pre-season friendly against the County Girls

Given the weather over the last few months, the course was in absolutely fabulous condition, most notably the greens which were rolling really well. Thanks to everyone connected with Stinchcombe for their welcome and hospitality. It is very much appreciated.

The match was played over six greensomes with shots given based on handicap (the boys gave shots in every game)

Five boys made their County debuts today, which was great to see. We hope they enjoyed the experience and we’re sure it’ll be the first of many over the coming years

The final result, 4.5-1.5 to the boys, didn’t tell the full story as every one of the games was very close with five of the six going to the 17th or 18th hole

The overall performance level for the boys was very good given the stage of the season, but far more impressive was they way they went about their respective matches, showing a great attitude and level of application throughout

It was also great to see so many parents and supporters out watching the golf, including Dereck Buttler, Peter French, Karen Rix and Pat Righton

And finally, thanks also to Richard Salter (GGU Vice President), Chris Douglas (Girls Manager), Janice Saunders (Girls Junior Organiser) for their help in making sure that everything ran as smoothly as it did.

All the very best to both teams for an enjoyable and successful season ahead     FULL MATCH RESULTS CAN BE FOUND HERE

Our next match is against Worcestershire on Sunday 7th April at Brickhampton Court, and the team will be announced for that very shortly.  If we can show the same attitude and application for the rest of the season as we did today then we’re going to have a very enjoyable and rewarding time.

Dave Hares (deputising for Donard Duffy)
