County Finals Day
It was an autumnal morning on Sunday 3rd October but the Semi Finalists from the Presidents Cup & Seniors Scratch Foursomes took to Cleeve Hill to do battle for the respective trophies on Finals Day.
The first Semi final in the Presidents Cup was contested between Forest Hills and Knowle. The second Semi Final was between Chipping Sodbury & Gloucester. After the mornings play Knowle edged out Forest Hills 3-2 while Gloucester beat Chipping Sodbury 4-1. In the afternoon the 3rd/4th place play off was contested between Forest Hills and Chipping Sodbury. With Knowle & Gloucester battling it out to be crowned Presidents Cup Champions 2021. Forest Hills overcame Chipping Sodbury by 3.5-1.5 sealing them 3rd place and Chipping Sodbury in 4th. The Final was a tight affair but played in great spirits. Knowle edged it 3.5-1.5 and so they were crowned 2021 Presidents Cup Champions. Captain Mike Jeffery will return to Knowle with the trophy which we hope will be proudly displayed in the clubhouse.
In the Seniors Scratch Foursomes the first Semi Final was between Ross-on-Wye and Bristol & Clifton. The second Semi Final was between Filton & Gloucester. Ross-on-Wye narrowly beat Bristol & Clifton 2-1 to secure their place in the afternoons final. Their opponents would be Gloucester who beat Filton by the same scoreline of 2-1.
Filton were edged out by Bristol & Clifton in the afternoon 2-1, which secured them 3rd place and Filton 4th. In the Final the and after their club mates narrowly missed out on the Presidents Cup the Gloucester team secured the Seniors Scratch Salver to take with them back to the club after beating Ross-on-Wye 2-1. In what was another very tight match and well done to John Christie and his team.
Our sincere thanks must got to the members and management of Cleeve Hill for their warm hospitality and for allowing all the players use of the golf course of which was a fitting test for Finals Day. We look forward to receiving all 2022 entries for the Presidents Cup and Seniors Scratch Salver 2022 in due course.
