Gloucestershire Golf Union are celebrating the announcement that two of their players, Joseph Long and Joe Harvey, both 22, have been named in the England Golf Men’s squads for the 2020 golf season.
Seventeen talented players have been picked for the squads. Joseph Long, from Lansdown Golf Club in Bath, was chosen to join the team of nine that compromise the ‘Men’s’ squad, after numerous successes at county, national and international level. He is a graduate from last year’s ‘A’ (amateur) team and has a handicap of -3.8. He is currently competing as a member of the England Team in the South American Amateur Championship in Chile. Joe Harvey, from Kendleshire Golf Club near Bristol, is joining the team of eight taking part in ‘A’ squad training and has a handicap of -2.6.
Later this year, the England Men’s squad will travel to Royal Dornoch in Scotland to defend their Home International crown won at Lahinch Golf Club last September. As well as this, they will compete for the 2020 European Team Championships which will be held at Hilversumsche in the Netherlands in July. In addition to attending regular coaching sessions, six players from the ‘A’ squad will take part in the annual Costa Ballena Octangular in January 2020, which Joe Harvey has already been selected for.
Dave Hares, Coaching Chairman of Gloucestershire Golf Union, expresses his pride that two of Gloucestershire’s players have been chosen; “We’re all thrilled that both Jo and Joe have been picked for the English teams. It is a testament to their golfing skills, dedication to the game and everyone who has supported them since they first picked up a club. I am positive they will be phenomenal assets to the English team and I am excited to see the results.”
