Seniors V Worcestershire Friendly

After the atrocious weather and the cancellation of the Gloucestershire versus Worcestershire friendly., proceedings got underway at Droitwich Golf  Club on Friday 26th April.  For both teams this is a valuable fixture but due to diary commitments and injuries neither side were able to field the original players selected.

The morning greensomes were close in all matches.  Steve Yorke and Nick Barwood couldn’t hold off their opponents and lost the opening exchange 2 down.  In the second match Rich Wood and Mike Jarvis spent a lot more time on the course than the last time they paired together at Dawlish!  A 1 up victory squared things up before Nick Morris and Tim Clink nudged Gloucestershire into a lead.  Turning a 2 hole deficit around, Clink took advantage of Morris’ tee shots with some sparkling short iron play to claim the match by a single hole.  Worcestershire took the next two matches before Ken Madden and Darryl Wheeler contributed with a 2 up victory at the tail end.  On his first outing for Gloucestershire, Ken Madden was nerveless and impressive.

The afternoon foursomes certainly went Worcestershire’s way with just Rich Wood and Mike Jarvis delivering half a point.  The final result of 8 ½ to 3 ½ was disappointing although several matches were close.

Many thanks to Droitwich Golf Club for hosting the match.  Clearly, as for most courses the winter hasn’t been kind but the efforts being made by the greens staff was evident and there are no doubts this lovely venue will be back to normal very soon.

Gloucestershire’s next match is the Channel League fixture against Wiltshire at West Wilts Golf Club on Friday 24th May.
