Midland 4 Counties - Day 2

The weather was much colder on Day 2 of the Midland 4 Counties but the team were looking to build on the positive result on Day 1. Up first were Warwickshire and in a similar fashion to Day 1 most of the matches were very tight around the turn. The boys played the back 9 as strong as they did on Day 1 and they secured an impressive 6.5 – 1.5 victory. Another victory in the afternoon session would complete the clean sweep and it would ensure the Midland 4 Counties trophy would be heading back to Gloucestershire.

It had warmed up considerably since the morning but there was still a stiff breeze for the afternoon round and final matches of the event. It would not be easy against a very strong Staffordshire team but the boys played some great golf to seal a 5.5 - 2.5 victory in the match making it a clean sweep for the event. This was Gloucestershire’s first victory in this event since 2016. Well done to all involved, a great achievement.

Our sincere thanks must go to Warwickshire as host County and The Stratford GC as the host club. We really appreciated the warm welcome from both. Our thanks must also go to Staffordshire and Worcestershire for the respective fixtures and for making the event as enjoyable as it always is. We wish all three counties a successful season and we look forward to competing again next year.

Well done to the boys who represented Gloucestershire in such high regards over the two days and they can take real pride in their performances. A huge thank you and well done to Mark Powell & Ian James as Team Managers. They provide endless support and encouragement of which does not go unnoticed by the players. The final thanks must go to the Green Army supporters for cheering the team on as they always do.
