Milan Reed takes home the triple at this year's Junior Championship,

Today, Sunday 16th August saw Henbury Golf Club host the 2020 Gloucestershire Golf Union Junior Championships.

The event, which incorporated the U18, U17, U16, U15 and U14 titles saw a field of 64 players. The biggest we’ve had at this event since 2012 at Cirencester and what a field of young players it was.

Henbury Golf Club looked after everyone brilliantly, and all COVID necessary measures were in place throughout. The course was presented in fantastic condition and overall, the scoring was superb with six 18 hole scores of even-par or better. A great reward for the tremendous effort that many of the boys have put into improving their games this summer.

The atmosphere was second to none with every player focused showing determination to play their best possible game, with 21 players in the field shooting a personal best in a GGU ranking event.

Milan Reed continues his excellent run of form in 2020 by taking this year’s U18 and U17 titles from Lewis Stalley by a single shot over 36 holes. Milan won the U16 title last year, so today’s performance sees him complete this particular set.

The U16 title was decided over the first 18 holes, and Milan was forced to work hard for his win, tying with Lewis after both players shot level par 69s. The Championship was decided on the 2nd hole of a sudden-death playoff when Milan rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt, after Lewis had just missed from slightly further away on the same line. Lewis played beautifully in the play-off, and he can go away from the event with his head held very high indeed.

Our attention for the Juniors now turns to the completion of The Jeff Hall Trophy, with the next event on Tuesday 25th August at Long Ashton…..entries close in just a few days’ time (18th August)
