Jake Phillips (Minchinhampton) held off the home favourite Nick Day to win the City & County of Bristol Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Henbury with an incredible 11 under par total of 127.
Nick, aiming to win his fourth City and County title, returned two impressive rounds of 66, and whilst that would have been good enough to win the title on numerous occasions in the past, it was far from good enough this year as Jake shot a six under par 63 in the morning, and followed it with an equally impressive round of 64 in the afternoon.
Joe Harvey (The Kendleshire) finished in a fairly distant third place with scores of 71 and 69.
As well as winning the title, Jake managed to beat the CSS score for the day (70, 71) by a whole 14 shots, and in so doing he reduced his own handicap to plus three, and set a 21st century scoring record for the 36 hole Duchess Salver events.....that's some achievement.
Nick's 2nd place finish was good enough however to see him win the Duchess Salver Order of Merit for the 7th successive season, and 10th time in all.....an incredible record that may never be equalled.
