103rd County Amateur Championship - Rnd 1 Rules

Conditions of play and Qualifications
1. Conditions of Play
• The Championship shall be stroke play played over 72 holes over two days. After 36 holes the leading 30 players and all those tying for 30th place shall play a further 36 holes on the second day. Order of play for first 36 holes will be decided by ballot.
• The winner shall be the competitor who returns the lowest gross score over 72 holes.
• The attention of all competitors is drawn to the General Conditions relating to all Union Championships and Tournaments.
• 60 competitors will be eligible to compete.

2. Prizes and Vouchers
The winner shall hold the County Union Challenge Cup until the next County Championship. In the event of a tie for the Championship the winner shall be decided by a ‘sudden death’ play-off. First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth prizes will be awarded. Apart from the winner of the Championship, ties for other prizes will be decided on the basis of the last 18, 9, 6, 3 etc. holes.

3. Qualification
To be eligible a player must:
• Be in possession of a CONGU ‘competition’ handicap not exceeding 6.4.
• Have been born in the county or have been a member of a GGU affiliated club for at least twelve months immediately prior to the date of the meeting.
• Not have competed for the Championships of any other County Union since January 1st of the previous calendar year.

4. Champion Club Tournament for the Winterbotham Cup
The competition is for teams of three players from any one club and will be held concurrently with the County Championship. The winning club, who shall qualify for the EG Champion Club Tournament and hold the Winterbotham Cup for the ensuing year, will be the club with the lowest gross score over 36 holes taking the best two scores out of three for each round. In the event of a tie, a player’s score for each round will be taken into account and decided on the 36-hole aggregate. If a tie still arises the result should be decided on the lowest score for the second 18 holes or 9 or 6 or 3 or 1; thereafter the score for the first round shall be treated in the same way until a decision is reached. Entry fee is £35.00 per team payable before play on 18th May 2019.

5. Entries and Ballot Entries to the Championship should be sent to the County Secretary to reach him on 10th May 2019, together with an entry fee of £35.00. It should be clearly understood that the winner of the Championship will be expected to represent the County at The English County Champions Tournament held in September 2019.
Order of Play and Starting Times will be sent to competitors and to the Secretaries of Competitors’ Clubs via email if provided. Where entries exceed 60 there will be a ballot amongst the highest handicaps to reduce the entries to that number. Names of members comprising the Club Teams must reach the Secretary by 18th May 2019 (before play) and must be accompanied with the entry fee of £35.00 per team. Team members must be eligible to play in the Championship. Once the draw is published no refunds of entry fees will be made.

6. The R&A Rules of Golf will apply.
