Match Report:

What a fantastic way to end the season and look ahead with great optimism.

Gloucestershire dominated the morning foursomes going into lunch with a 4 – 1 point lead.

Out of the blocks in the afternoon singles came Nick Day with a crushing win over Welsh boy International Oliver Mottram 7&5, Tom Workman secured a half point in a hard fought game at number two.

Haler had looked in the mood all weekend and dominated Gwents best player, another full international with an emphatic 6&5 win, things were looking brilliant for a big win!

Sam Morgan couldn’t keep up his fine early morning form and lost on the 16th, his performances this year have been excellent and we all have high hopes for his continued development next season

Rudgy was back to winning ways at number 5, a convincing winner. Time for another long run of singles success.

Gloucestershire now needed a half point from the remaining matches to secure victory. We knew that Charlie McLean had been well beaten so a half from the last four matches would be enough.

Dave Wood was 2 up with six to play, then got hit by an express train, 2 down with 2 to play, losing four in a row! Young Reece and Jake were level going up the 17th and Mark Pitcher looked comfortable in the anchor position.

Woody then wins 17 with a great approach shot and the Gwent player 3 putts 18 under the pressure for Dave to secure the victory – the result is ours!

Reece and Jake fight to the end and secure halved matches, whilst Mark Pitcher was disappointed to lose the last two holes for a half in his match.

Overall a great team performance with some fantastic individual displays.

Mike Darby says ‘I’m thrilled with the development of the youngsters this season. They were thrown in at the deep end and had to learn how to swim. Overall we can be very proud of the way they’ve played for their county and their team mates.

I’d like to thank all the players in all the squads for their commitment and support this year in what has been a huge year of change in Gloucestershire Golf. The management team are all excited about the future and the way the players have responded.

On behalf of the players and the County Executive I’d like to thanks all the clubs, the members and the committees for allowing us the use of their facilities this season and trust that we can secure their continued support in 2012 and beyond.’
