Full Results of County Foursomes Championship at Cotswold Hills 27th June 2010
On a very sad day for English football a full field of players from across the county played at the magnificent Cotswold Hills venue for the 53rd County Foursomes Championship. The sun shone all day on this beautiful setting with lightning fast, perfect greens produced for the tournament by Wayne Vincent & his Greens-Staff.
In the first round good scores were returned by Sam McPherson (Broadway) & Tyler Hogarty (Rodway Hill), Bob Broad & Rob Stephens (Minchinhampton), Alex Palomeque & Alex Ward (Kendleshire) all with scores of 2 over 74's. Reece Johnson (B&C) & Jack Bamford (Henbury) went one better with a terrific 73 but a fantastic 2 under score of 70 was recorded by last years champions Andy Rudge & James Webber (Bristol & Clifton). So the holders had set the pace for the field to chase. McPherson & Hogarty put together a well constructed 77 to take the early clubhouse lead on 151 to hold 2nd place. Home players Drummond Watt & Ian Melvin (Cotswold Hills) finished strongly to return a 77 to go with their morning 75 & pick up third prize with a 152 total to pip Broad & Stephens on count back over the last 18 holes. Rudge & Webber were not going to give up their title lightly & despite being 4 over after 5 holes in the afternoon they fought back with a stunning level par round of 72 to finish on 142, nine strokes ahead of the field. A great performance to remind the youngsters coming throgh that the experienced players still hold the edge - for the time being!!
The best nett scores of the day were returned by Reece Johnson & Jack Bamford Nett 69/75 = 144 to take the first nett prize with Graham More & Mark Matthews of Cotswold Hills in second nett place with a Nett 71/74 = 145
A great day for all , pity about the football!!
