Press Report - GGU County AM/AM
The County AM/AM was played at Minchinhampton Avening links on Friday 6th May 2011 in glorious weather with the golf course looking stunning.
The lucky 19 teams were partnered by some of the best golfers in Gloucestershire and had a thoroughly good time. Also playing were the County's new sponsors, The Abbey Group with MD Neil Brimble & Directors Nick Scanlan & Dave Stephenson who enjoyed their day with England International Oscar Sharpe from Minchinhampton who returned an excellent score of 72.
The best gross individual of 71 score was equalled by Andy Rudge of Bristol & Clifton & Tom Workman of Stinchcombe Hill with Rudge winning on a count back. Rudge was full of praise for the condition of the course and the warmth of the welcome he had received.
The team that won third place Naunton Downs, partnered by Nick Day of Henbury was one of four teams to return a best of 2 from 4 scores of 128. In 2nd place was the Long Ashton team partnered by Bradley Selwood of Knowle but all were beaten by a stunning score of 126 by the final team of the day from Gloucester Golf & Country Club partnered by local Minchinhampton county player, Neil Dean.
All 57 competitors had a magnificent day on the golf course and saw the 19 county elite players pull off shots that they could only dream of. The season is now well & truly up & running with the County Championship being played on 21/22 May at Stinchcombe Hill.
